Crochet projects in Use

I have to say a huge SORRY to all of you who have in the last 6 months sent me emails wanting to join. Since the birth of our little girl I haven't been online much at all and thus have not read my emails and sent invitations to those of you wanting to join. Now with her being able to entertain herself for a while I've found time to reaquaint myself with my blog friends and will soon be able to reply to 'I want to join' requests!

If you remember I did quite a bit of crocheting and sewing while I was pregnant. Here are some photos of those projects in use! At the moment I am trying to crochet a pentagon ball will post some photos when I'm finished. Hope everyone is well!

FOR SALE: Wagon Wheel Afghan Crochet Kit

Mary Maxim Wagon Wheel Afghan
Crochet Kit

The above picture is one I took of the kit I have for sale.
The below picture is the image & information from the Mary Maxim website.

Due to carpal tunnel, I've had to cut way back on my crocheting.
I will never make this afghan.
I bought the kit from a Mary Maxim mail order catalog a couple of years ago.
It's the complete kit...yarn and pattern to make the Wagon Wheel Afghan.
I paid $69.99 plus shipping/handling for it.
I am asking $50 for the kit, plus $12.50 s/h within the continental US.
(No s/h will be charged if the purchaser is able to pick it up in person rather than me having to ship it).

The kit has been safely stored in a clean and dry environment.
Contact me if interested!

{yellow and gold}

I am really into yellow and gold colors this autumn, so I made a new soft sculpture using that color palette. I like the shape of this piece, too, it's really modern even though I recycled the base from a 1970s wood plaque!

has it started yet ?

i've not posted for long here and well, nothing is new, i still crochet shawls, wristwarmers & scarves... but this weekend as i finished sewing the halloween costume my 12 yo daughter had ordered, i just awoke to the thought it was time to start my little handmade Christmas presents !
over the years, i am more and more aware of who to make things for, and who will not care (for these last my hands can rest). i usually write a list ahead of time with a few gift ideas next to each name. it isn't about how much you make or how big, but how pertinent the gift will be and how much love you put into it, is it ?!
i started gathering some crochet links (click to go to the pattern page) these past two days and would like to share a few ideas (most of them being quickly made, it shouldn't be about skipping your beauty sleep, right ?) that might come as a reminder to you, or that you may have not come across yet.

stars, snowmen, christmas stockings, an afghan with sleeves...

3D stars in the colors of your choice

a moustache for small ones & older ones to have fun on christmas day

some pretty hangers that you could pair with a jar of homemade laundry detergent & wood pegs

a hook case for your fellows crocheters

a flower frame with the photo of a loved one (or several small ones as tree ornaments)

two love birds, on a pretty branch as a mobile for some new fiancés ?!

a reusable grocery bag for the farmers market

a hearts & flowers table runner

a set of mini storage baskets, maybe wrapped with small craft supplies

some votive candles covers (i want to make these using hemp, linen or a matt cotton !)

a slouchy hat

some scalloped bracelets (& some beauties/make-up supplies for your favorite teen girl)

some tulle dish scrubbies (along with a jar of homemade & some nice tea-towels ?!)

and some slippers, of course !

that's all for today... i was wondering... wouldn't it be nice if we could all share a few handmade ideas for some pre-Christmas crochet inspiration during this month of November ?

free form crochet

I just finished a custom made crochet piece over the weekend and I love the way it turned out! It's a free form crochet soft sculpture done in shades of cream and beige...

The yarns are all vegan and I had a really fun time picking them out at my local yarn shop! I used Sublime Soya Cotton, Louisa Harding Merletto, and Plymouth Yarns Jeannee cotton - all of them were a pleasure to crochet with.

International Crochet Day 2011

grannycushion2

International Crochet Day is Monday, September 12! That gives you a little time still to plan how you will celebrate.

Here are ten ideas to get you thinking.

10. Teach someone to crochet. Reinforce your teaching by hooking the person up with our eBook: Learn to Crochet: Instruction on How to Crochet and 5 Free Crochet Patterns for Beginners.

9. Yarn bomb a co-worker's cubicle. Or your spouse's car. Or your kid's lunchbox.

8. Vow to bust your stash. We'll help you out with patterns priced at crazy stashbuster prices. Check our Stashbuster Sale.

7. Make a hat. Give it away.

6. Enter a contest to win a crochet hook crafted by award-winning hook-carver Jimbo, who is a big fan of International Crochet Day. See Jimbo's Front Porch for details. Contest ends at noon on Monday.

5. Get started on your holiday gift list. If you can't find just what you're looking for in our 5 Free Patterns for Beautiful Handmade Gifts, check out our other free crochet patterns.

4. Crochet a flower or two or ten. Give them away at random to people you haven't met yet.

3. Leave us a comment here or on Facebook to let us know how you're celebrating International Crochet Day.

2. Crochet in public.

1. Crochet in your favorite spot for as long as you like.

African Flower Hexaon Coaster

This patten is based on the African Flower Hexagon listed in Ravelry. I have added a couple of things to make this hexagon work as a coaster.

My preference, in coasters, is to make them a double thickness. I HATE it when the moisture from a glass or bottle, or the heat from a cup, saps through a coaster.

Materials Used:
I Love This Cotton, from Hobby Lobby (A. Purple, B. Pink and C. Cotton Candy)
Crochet Hook: E
Tapestry/Yarn Needle

Name: African Flower Hexagon Coasters
Pattern: The Fur~Babies Momma

reduced to a hanger

After spending hours going through patterns looking for a new project I became confused, said confusion rendered me into a state of catatonia - so back to basics I returned and made a hanger.

Crochet Sporty Sandals Pattern

When we walk into shops, we see plenty of choice for little girls but just a handful for boys. Isn't it the same story everywhere? Crochet patterns are no different. This unisex crochet sandal pattern tries to fill that gap. Take a look.......
